Once again it was found that Greece holds a prominent position in the destinations chosen by the people of Russia, confirming its recognized tourist value. Great emphasis was placed on religious tourism, as this year the start of the tourist season coincides with the Orthodox Easter. Specifically, Thessaloniki is the ideal choice for summer destination, as it is close to Halkidiki, as well for City break trips because of the direct daily flights.
In conclusion, as far as the Russian tourist market is concerned, the most realistic forecasts for this year’s tourist season show an increase of 10% to 15% compared to the numbers of last season, based on the current image of the reservation and a series of unforeseen factors, having to do with the economic situation in Russia and the bilateral relationship between Russia and Turkey. The poor state of the Russian economy is a major inhibiting factor for the reservations next summer. A large increase was recorded on the internal tourism in Russia. The conclusion of a survey reports that 50% of those Russians who chose Turkey for vacation destination will choose this year the interior of the country. Finally, the recent terrorist attacks do not seem to trouble the Russians who consider Greece a safe destination.
